We believe this is a original circa 1650s etching with engraving after a painting By Poussin engraved by Jean Pesne and printed by Jean Le Plond. It is on a thick rag laid paper and seems to have some sort of watermark with letters in it. We can make out a V and a U. In very good condition for the age. it does have one foldmark across the lower center. It seems to have never been framed. Paper is 23.5 by about 17 inches.Plate mark is 18.5 by 12 inches. We found one other copy in the MFA museum that has been trimmed into the plate mark. . There is another version in a couple museums by a different engraver also of the period. That version seems to be all engraved. Our version is engraved and etched. An alternate title is sometimes The Ecstasy of St. Paul..
